If you are planning a fitted kitchen in Ghana, the honest answer to “what will it cost” is that it depends on a handful of decisions you make early. This guide explains what those decisions are, so you can set a realistic budget before you speak to anyone.
The short answer
A fitted kitchen is priced by the metre, not as a flat package. Two kitchens in identically sized rooms can differ substantially in price depending on the carcass material, the door fronts, the worktop and the hardware inside.

What actually drives the price
1. The run length, not the room size
Cabinetry is quoted per linear metre of run. A large kitchen with one short run of units can cost less than a small kitchen lined with cabinets on three walls. Measure the wall lengths that will carry units — that number matters more than the floor area.
2. Carcass material
The carcass is the box behind the door. It is invisible once installed, which is exactly why it is the first place corners get cut. Moisture resistance matters in a Ghanaian kitchen, particularly under the sink.
3. Door fronts and finish
Doors are the largest visible surface and usually the single biggest swing in price. Painted, laminated, veneered and solid timber fronts sit at different points, and a handleless design costs more to make than one with handles.
4. Worktop
Worktop material can account for a large share of a kitchen budget on its own. Hardwood, laminate and stone differ in both material cost and in the labour to cut, join and seal them.
5. Hardware you cannot see
Hinges and drawer runners are where a kitchen either lasts or starts sagging in year two. Soft-close mechanisms and full-extension runners cost more up front and are the components most worth paying for.
6. Appliance integration
Building around an oven, hob, extractor or fridge means precise openings and sometimes bespoke housings. Tell your maker the exact models early — changing them after the cabinets are cut is expensive.
7. The state of your walls and floor
Out-of-square walls and uneven floors are normal, and a good installer scribes units to fit them. Sites that need significant packing or levelling take longer to install.
What is usually not included
Most kitchen quotations in Ghana cover cabinetry, worktops, hardware and installation. Budget separately for:
- Plumbing and any pipework relocation
- Electrical work, sockets and lighting circuits
- Tiling, splashbacks and painting
- The appliances themselves
- Removing and disposing of an old kitchen
Ask any maker to state clearly in writing which of these are in or out of their quotation. Disagreements about scope, not price, cause most kitchen disputes.
How to get an accurate quote
The more precise your information, the more precise the number you get back. Useful things to send:
- Wall dimensions for every run that will carry units, plus ceiling height
- Photographs of the room from two or three angles
- Positions of existing plumbing, sockets and windows
- Model numbers of any appliances you already own
- A realistic budget range — this saves everyone time
A quotation built from measurements is a price. A quotation built from a description is a guess.
Questions worth asking any kitchen maker
- What material is the carcass, and is it moisture resistant near the sink?
- What hinges and runners are included, and are they soft-close?
- Is installation included, and who does it — your team or a subcontractor?
- What is the lead time from deposit to installation?
- What happens if something needs adjusting after fitting?
You should get direct answers to all five. Hesitation on any of them tells you something.
